What We
Offer
01
Inclusive Cross-Sector Planning
Dr. Petersen and the nonprofit he runs, Engage NJ, were invited to represent the NJ Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, on a national Multi-state Collaborative for College Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement. This consortium promotes robust state-level policies and programs to accelerate civic learning for an engaged democracy among all types of higher education systems in all fifty states, as well as U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. The MSC is organized through a partnership between State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO) and the National Association of System Heads (NASH), and in collaboration with the Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement (CLDE) Coalition.
During the 2016-2017 period, Petersen also consulted with the NJ Office of the Attorney General, specifically with Deputy AG Wanda Moore, to convene and develop collective impact plans for a host of “prevention policy boards” made up of community-specific stakeholders.
I must admit, I was a little daunted to work with such an auspicious office as the attorney general. Then, once we got into the scope of the project, it became clear that the principles of future solutions, along with my built experiences, allowed me to listen and guide the boards toward their determined goals and actions.

02
Ethical Community Engagement
Petersen regularly secures senators and assemblywomen/men to speak and partner at conferences and symposia. This process helps to align ethical community engagement, principled solutions, and the voices and participation of state officials.
In representing the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education on a national collaborative on civic learning and democratic engagement, I have come to understand the complexities involved, but also the opportunities that result from engaging with all parties ethically and with principle.
