“In 2023–24, Dr. Petersen and I explored the concept of a mobile outreach concept called the Justice Bus, which would deliver a menu of services for underserved families unable to attend the fixed-location events that Princeton Justice was providing, mostly due to issues related to childcare, transportation or physical mobility. After researching the idea and speaking with other organizations that adopted this model on behalf of Princeton Justice, we built a cost-effective program that not only promised to reduce barriers to services, but also doubled as a recruiting tool for (legal and healthcare) volunteers and a dynamic promotional tool for our funding sponsors.”

I asked Saul to work with me one on one. He would almost get inside my head and know when I was thinking negative thoughts … I have played college tennis for four years at The Ohio State University. My body language and on court attitude is no longer a concern for me. Because I spent a lot of time towards creating a positive attitude on the tennis court, it now comes naturally to me and I don’t have to think about it anymore.”

I have known Saul for five years as his advisor, instructor, and dissertation director at the Graduate School of CUNY, and it has been very gratifying to work with him. In my view, his dissertation on "The Role of Goal Setting and Automaticity in Novice Athletes’ Development and Performance of a Tennis Skill: A Coaching Intervention" is of publishable quality. This study was also distinguished because its unique methodology, called micro-analysis, which involves detailed observations of students, their self-ratings, and their answers to interview questions before, during, and after engaging in practice. Dr. Petersen’s findings provide insight into how students with little initial skill can be taught to learn using experts’ methods of self-regulation."

“From 1999-2001, Saul coached the high school varsity team to two National Championships. Saul’s appreciation of technique and tactics, together with his ability to help the players develop a particular mental attitude to their matches, were very significant factors in these successes.”

“Dr. Petersen was experienced in assisting in urban public school research at Bard College and Harvard before coming to Lehman. He taught courses at Lehman between 2007-2009 in Self-Regulation Theory in Child Development; as well as The Child in Context. In addition, he supervised teaching interns and Teach for America students. He was well received by students and faculty colleagues during his time he taught at Lehman.”
